Boys to Men Mentoring
and Coaching Program
Boys to Men Mentoring and Coaching is a program aimed to create a positive social connection for African-Australian young men aged 12 to 20 who live in the public housing estates in the City of Yarra, City of Melbourne and surrounding areas. I was inspired to create this initiative because while working with young men for nearly a decade, I noticed that most young men lack good mentors in their lives, and I want to contribute to shaping their future.
I will initially engage the young men through BBQs, sports and recreation events to build rapport and peer connections. I plan to grow into a more structured group mentoring program including youth camps, workshops on positive relationships and navigating third culture identity. This will allow young men to find their purpose, a sense of belonging, gain confidence to realise their potentials in life and to minimise suicide and youth incarceration rates.
